Thursday 1st March 2012 3:18PM

The Synod of the Diocese of Sodor and Man met together on Thursday 1 March 2012 at Kirk Braddan Hall.

There was only one subject for this meeting of Synod which was to consider The Anglican Communion Covenant: Article 8.

Proposing a motion in favour of the Anglican Communion Covenant was The Right Reverend Gregory Cameron, Bishop of St Asaph.

Following the proposition and opposition motions members of both the Houses of Clergy and Laity expressed concerns, queried their understanding of the Covenant and both Gregory Cameron and Jonathan Clatworthy responded to these.

Bishop Robert set forward his position relating to his experience working with TEAC and looking at the present situation and leading the Anglican Communion into the future.

The vote on the matter before Synod (recalling that majority votes are required both of the clergy and laity for the motion to pass) was then taken and the result was:

Bishops-1 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions;

Clergy-5 for, 12 against, 0 abstentions;

Laity-21 for, 15 against, 1 abstention.

The result will now be referred back to the General Synod.

The meeting closed in prayer following thanks from Bishop Robert to all who were there and particularly to the Bishop of St Asaph and the Revd Jonathan Clatworthy.
