New Assistant Curate Announced

Monday 13th February 2012

Bishop Robert has formally approved the appointment of Mrs Jeanette Hamer as the Assistant Curate at the Parish Church of Saint George, Douglas. Jeanette will take up her post following her ordination as Deacon at the beginning of July and it will be on a non-stipendiary, part time basis.

Jeanette moved to the Island over ten years ago with her husband Steve and youngest son working in education as Headteacher at Michael School. Having taken early retirement some five years ago she discovered that God had a new call upon her life and her time. Having trained on the Island towards her ordination Jeanette commented on her appointment, 'I am delighted to be offered the opportunity to continue my formation and training at Saint George's, Douglas where I'm looking forward to joining the staff team and getting to know everyone involved with the life of the parish.'

The Vicar of Saint George's, Andie Brown, is thrilled at the appointment. "St. George's is a warm and friendly church and I know that Jeanette will get the same generous welcome that my family and I received when we arrived last September. Many of our folk already know Jeanette and her husband Steve, and they are excited that she is coming to train with us. I believe that the range of gifts across both our church Ministry Team and fellowship will allow Jeanette to learn a lot and to offer a lot in her turn. Her clear commitment to the Lord, the Bible and personal prayer and spiritual growth is all that we are looking for at St George's as we go forward in the work of God".
