Community Review Begins

Tuesday 14th May 2013 11:45 AM

The first of two briefing meetings took place this week at St George's Church, Douglas as the launch of the 2013 Community Review begins. Representatives from the clergy, churchwardens and the four mission partnerships gathered to hear from a number of speakers.

Following a warm welcome and introduction the Rev Paul Mothersdale opened in prayer and led a thought provoking scriptural and theological reflection. The Archdeacon, the Ven. Andie Brown then introduced the raison d'etre for the review. Mr Andrew Swithinbank then offered a well structured overview of the social needs across the Island and where there was support and where further potential areas might be developed. For many the statistics presented were eye-opening revealing life in the Island which many might not be aware of.

Examples of working projects in three places were presented by Mrs Helen Parry, Canon Malcolm Convery and Rev Clive Burgess, namely in the Parish of the West Coast, Kirk Michael and Onchan respectively.

A question and answer session followed leading into a 'Where do we go from here?' presentation by the Archdeacon. And prior to the closing prayers Gill Poole, Diocesan Mission Adviser gave a future overview and timescale for the practical working out of all that had been presented.

The UPDATED COMMUNITY REVIEW PACK is now available.
