Fresh thinking in Arbory and Castletown

The first Sunday in June will see a new contemporary worship gathering in St Mary’s on the Harbour, Castletown – at 7pm on 7th June.

This is part of wider vision for the community.  Plans are in the making for a ‘Community Hub’ in St Mary’s under the banner “The Upper Room”, where you’ll find various welcoming groups that all offer a warm welcome.

These include:

The new worshipping community that’s starting in a couple of weeks is part of the church’s spiritual and discipleship element.

Vicar Rev Simon Archer says “We’ve been praying and planning for a couple of years but in the last few months and weeks we have been gifted with new people including a worship band leader, singers, musicians, a worship leader.  God has been very good.

“Our churches will offer worship across a wide breadth of traditions from rural traditional to central/low church and now truly contemporary worship.”

To begin with, The Upper Room is starting in the lower room!

“We won’t begin in the upstairs space while we are applying for grants but that’s not stopping us from starting the elements of the project in the downstairs part of St Mary’s on the Harbour.”

Rev Simon adds some reassurance:

“We know new things can feel exciting… and sometimes a little uncomfortable too.  That’s okay.  We believe God is still calling the Church to reach new people in new ways while remaining rooted in the same Gospel.

If you’ve been looking for contemporary worship on the Isle of Man, if you used to go to church and want to try again, or if you simply feel curious about what this might become, you would be very welcome.”

The upper floor now …. and imagining how it might look.
