Your wedding

We recognize that the wedding day is a unique day that marks a tremendous step in two people’s ongoing love, whether you are just dreaming of a church wedding, or whether the planning is well underway. You are welcome
to marry in your parish church – it’s your parish church, and we welcome you!

Churches offer a sense of history. It may be that members of your family have been married at a particular church in the past and so you will become part of that family history by choosing it as your wedding venue. Those family connections can enhance and make your day even more special.

We would like to make your wedding personal and memorable for you. Churches are special places and there are some things about a church wedding that you just can’t get anywhere else. A church wedding adds a spiritual dimension to your special day and your future shared life. The church ceremony includes God and asks for his help, guidance and blessing. The church will help you grow in your commitment and will pray for and support you in the keeping of your wedding vows.

Preparing for your wedding
Even if you have already been living together for some time, you are still two separate individuals with different backgrounds, personalities, experiences, hopes and fears. You’ll never make such big promises to each other as the day on which you make your wedding vows. Most churches offer you wedding preparation – one approach is called “Loving for Life”. It is a no obligation invitation, but one that many couples appreciate. It provides time and space to think about the marriage vows and the difference they will make in your future life together.

This is your special day. The marriage service has a clear structure but, within that structure, you have many choices to make about your hymns and music, reading and prayers.

And so the first step …..contact the Minister or Marriage Co-ordinator of the church who will be able to advise you so that, with their help, you’ll be able to make choices with which you are all happy.

In the meantime, have a look at the Church of England’s information-packed Wedding pages. Manx law on marriages is different, so check the guidance on Church weddings on the Diocesan Registry website.

We believe that marriage is a gift from God and that a good marriage is healthy, freeing and life giving to the partners. This is an adventure upon which you are embarking and the Christian church wants to support you in your adventure. May God bless and guide you both as you make plans for your wedding.
