Not actually on Mars though …
Hiding at the back of the Isle of Man Motor Museum are two space capsules, one of which has been up into space twice with Russian astronauts. Brought to the Island by a company that planned to use them for a regular passenger service into space, they were abandoned during a lengthy court case and have found a new home in Jurby. Denis and Darren Cunningham, owners of the museum, agreed to provide discounted entry during March for those who attended the MARS exhibition in St German’s Cathedral. In addition they offered the chance for one child to sit inside one of the capsules.
Recently Sophie French, whose name was drawn out of a hat, had the opportunity of climbing inside, experiencing for herself the cramped quarters available for the flight. She said:
”I felt very surprised about winning and very excited. The experience was so interesting and cool.
I felt so lucky to be able to see and go inside the space capsule.”

Denis allowed her into the workshop, showing her various vehicles in process of restoration. He encouraged Sophie to try out a Peel Car and an aeroplane. Maybe she’ll become the first Manx astronaut!
