Information Regarding General Synod Elections

This year, a new process has been introduced for election of representatives to General Synod.  The elections will be conducted electronically, assisted by a company called Civica. This means that those who are entitled to vote in the elections will, if they have provided an email address to the Secretary to the Diocesan Synod, nominate candidates and cast their vote using an online voting system.  Electors will receive information about this process by email shortly.

Electors who have not provided an email address will continue to receive communications by post, and will be able to nominate candidates and to vote by post.

The Diocese of Sodor and Man is entitled to elect one Member of the House of Laity (a lay person) and one Proctor in Convocation (a member of clergy) to represent the Diocese.

The timetable for the elections is as follows:

Issue of invitation to nominate Friday 30th July 2021
Closing date for nominations Monday 30th August 2021
Issue of voting papers Friday 17th September 2021
Closing date for return of voting papers Friday 8th October 2021

Please note that the rules relating to those who are entitled to nominate and elect General Synod representatives differ in our Diocese; references to a “deanery synod” should be read as if they were references to the “diocesan synod”.  Further information regarding the process for nomination is available from the Presiding Officer, who can be contacted via the Bishop’s Office, Thie Yn Aspick, 4 The Falls, Cronkbourne, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM4 4PZ, or via secretary@sodorandman.im
