The start of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations commenced with the lighting of a number of beacons across the British Isles. One beacon was lit on top of the 85 feet high tower at St Ninian’s Church in Douglas.
For the occasion held at dusk on Thursday 2 June music was provided by Douglas Town Band and in attendance was the Mayor of the new city of Douglas, Councillor Janet Thommeny, other civic officials, the Mayor’s Chaplain, Fr Michael Brydon, who led prayers to the Lord of Man, the Reverend Canon John Coldwell, Vicar of St Ninian’s, along with a good gathering of local people.
