Today Thursday 2nd April, the King awarded the gift of specially minted Maundy money to four recipients from the Isle of Man. Brian Kermode, Bruce Kirkham, Elizabeth Sheen and Edna Clarke BEM are all being honoured for their faithful and outstanding Christian service to their local communities. The four of them represent both the Anglican and Methodist churches of the Isle of Man. They received the Maundy money at a special service in St Asaph Cathedral, Wales. The award of the Royal Maundy goes back to medieval times and publicly expresses the monarch’s desire to celebrate Christian service to others. Symbolically the honouring of the recipients reminds us of the way that Jesus Christ washed the feet of His disciples at the Last Supper.
