Secretary To The Archdeacon And Synod for the Diocese of Sodor and Man, based Douglas.

Salary: £22,276 (FTE £37,128)  24 hours per week flexible

The Bishop’s Office and Archdeacon’s Office are currently seeking an experienced individual to join as the Synod and Archdeacon’s Secretary. You must be a self starter with an eye for detail to provide secretarial and administrative support to the Archdeacon and various Diocesan committees from the Douglas office.

The role involves clerking for the various Diocese committees, preparing papers, agendas and sending papers to members, minute taking, and filing. In addition, the Archdeacon secretarial role involves answering and dealing with telephone calls, dealing with incoming and outgoing mail and diary management, whilst also maintaining a comprehensive filing system that is accessible by the Archdeacon.  There is additionally a requirement to support the upkeep of the Diocese database and welcoming those who come to meet with the Archdeacon and, if appropriate, offering refreshments.

You should be adaptable and personable and have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. You must have previous administrative/secretarial experience, with the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.  A flexible and disciplined approach to work to develop and implement efficient procedures would is also essential. Shorthand and some understanding or any sympathy with the purposes, life and work of the Church of England and the Anglican Communion, specifically with reference to the role and work of archdeacons in general and the Archdeacon of Man in particular would be desirable.

This role is 24 hours per week worked flexibly according to the requirements of the role.
