Corona Virus (Covid 19) Update – Burial Grounds & Churchyards
It is advised that under the EMERGENCY POWERS (CORONAVIRUS) (CLOSURE OF BUSINESSES AND OTHER PREMISES) REGULATIONS 2020 that the closure of all churches and places of worship also includes all burial grounds and cemeteries. These regulations came into effect from 27 March 2020.
The Diocese has advised all local church burial authorities of this and also ask that the people of the Island will respect this for the common good of our people and our communities so that we might move nearer to the end of this pandemic that we find ourselves in.
We are reminded the only reasons for anyone to be in any of the Islands churchyards and cemeteries is for the purpose of a graveside funeral service and for contractors involved with the preparation and maintainance of burial grounds.
